Instructions for extending shaft
Grasp the shaft near the head with one hand and the grip with the other and quickly snap open (you cannot damage the shaft by opening too hard).
To close
Hold a glove or cloth in your hand while gripping the shaft near the head (to protect your finger from a pinch). Tap the grip end on a solid surface (concrete pavement or a rock). Twist the shaft on the ferule to lock. If the shaft does not loosen hold the shaft higher and slam it down on a hard surface.
To clean locking surfaces
Open easy twist shafts against each other. Just use water to clean, no oils or other chemicals.
